IPv6 Security

IPv6 was supposed to be more secure. We have IPSEC built-in don’t we? This short tutorial and lab exercises will take you through the pitfalls of IPv6 and it’s (in)security issues and teach you how to better secure your IPv6 Environment.

Target Audience

Technical folks who are building or operating a service provider or enterprise network and have or are deploying IPv6. This is not an introductory IPv6 Class and it is assumed that participants have a working knowledge of IPv6 and Routing.


  • It is assumed that the workshop participants have a working knowledge of IP Routing, and IPv4/IPv6.
  • Labs are conducted within Linux and Cisco IOS, so a knowledge of both would be useful

We recommend the following Academy courses be completed before the start of the tutorial:

  • This workshop is not an introduction. The lab exercises use Cisco CLI and Ubuntu VMs.

  • Hardware: It is highly recommended that participants bring their own laptop computers with admin rights.
